About Autism Behavioral Center- ABC
ABC is the largest award winning 1:1 intervention center in Malaysia: 1 child, 1 therapist, private classrooms. ABC is supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Ms. Dita Chapman who facilitates ABA trainings, programming and supervision in ABC using the Pennsylvania training and technical assistance network (PaTTAN) technology developed in USA by Dr. Amiris Dipuglia (BCBA) & Mr. Mike Miklos (BCBA).
ABA therapy is recognised as the "gold standard" for autism treatment. ABA also supports children with speech delays, social and behavioral challenges, ADHD, GDD and general delays in development.
About Autism
Autistic people see, hear and feel the world differently to other people. If you are autistic, you are autistic for life; autism is not an illness or disease and cannot be ‘cured’. Often people feel being autistic is a fundamental aspect of their identity.
Autism is a spectrum condition. All autistic people share certain difficulties, but being autistic will affect them in different ways. All people on the autism spectrum learn and develop. With the right sort of support, all can be helped to live a more fulfilling life of their own choosing.
At present, there is no epidemiological data available on the prevalence of autism in Malaysia. However, a smaller scale study by the Ministry of Health on children between the ages 18 to 26 months showed a rate of 1.6 in 1000 children, or approximately 1 in 625.
Given that many cases go undetected, and that additionally, practitioners in both the medical and education fields report an increase the amount of autism cases they are having to address 13,14, it is likely that the true prevalence rate of autism in Malaysia is higher.
On March 27, 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new data on the prevalence of autism in the United States. This surveillance study identified 1 in 68 children (1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls) as having autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
